To Love & To Lead: Staff Discussions

Posted on Sep 26, 2017 by Brian Seewald, Youth and Family Pastor

For the first time in my life, the scales were removed from my eyes. God was calling out to me in a very loud voice.  He wasn’t going to allow me to say the word “no” anymore.  A very bold question was asked of me that night by God in my heart: “If it was to be just you and Me, will that be enough for you?”  I finally said yes! This was on February 12, 1996. It is still such a vivid memory to me. Why? Because it was literally the most valuable first step I could make. However, what I would do from that point would be even more important.

Matthew 15:8 says, “People honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” This was me! I spoke about God. I was present at “church stuff”. I had all the right intentions but one: surrender. I wasn’t ready to give up living for me. I wasn’t ready to put the cares, concerns, and pleasures of this world behind me. I allowed God to exist in my world at my convenience. I wanted a savior but needed a Lord...until that wonderful Monday night.

It hasn’t been perfect but I have perfection in mind; perfection of the heart. It has been a much different road. The scenery is way different. God’s views are much more glorious! My outlook is different. I still battle the selfish side of me. But I am now in the battle! 1 Corinthians 10:31 “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” I want my life, as a whole, every area, to cast the shadow of the cross wherever I go, whatever I do and in whatever I say. I do not want to fall back to what Revelations 2:4 says, “But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.” It is time for all Christians to reconnect to their first and true love: Jesus! Will you join me on the different road? Will you join me in the battle? God is calling…will you listen?
