From Your Pastor’s Heart … Give Thanks!

Gratitude is one of the most healing attitudes that a person can develop and embody.  Dr. Daniel Amen, a psychiatrist, has his patients write a fresh list of the things for which they are thankful every day.  This aids in the healing and rejuvenation of the brain.  It produces better moods, dispels depression, overcomes automatic negative thinking, and brings about an overall since of hope and wellness.  I began to follow Dr. Amen’s regimen as I was dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress.  It was a key to my personal healing.

The first Thanksgiving celebrations in the United States were patterned after the Feast of Tabernacles in the Bible.  It was a fall harvest festival to thank the LORD for His blessings and to spend leisure time with friends and family feasting and fellowshipping.

This Wednesday, November 18th, we have a great opportunity to join with the area churches in a great Community Thanksgiving Service!  We hope you’ll join us at 7 p.m. in the Van Buren High School Fine Arts Center.  Sunday our theme will be Thanksgiving.  And on Thursday, November 26th, our nation will officially celebrate Thanksgiving.  If you don’t have friends and family with whom to celebrate the day, you might want to join Mike and Malinda McSpadden at the Western Arkansas Child Develop Center in Alma and help them box and deliver over 600 Thanksgiving meals for lunch that day.

Are you making your list and checking it twice?  For what are YOU thankful?  May our thanksgiving lead to thanks-living!

Thankful to be your pastor!
