ONE DAY AT A TIME

This Sunday will mark the beginning of the fall season. This means that most stores and some of our homes will turn into havens centered around the hustle and bustle of all the holidays, festivities, and activities that come between October-December.  In a paraphrased and expanded version of the opening line of a Charles Dickens novel, it may be the best of times for some, it may be the worst of times for others. Whichever is true, it will be necessary for us to stay focused on our pathway to a Holy, Healthy and Happy Life. It will be necessary during this busy last three months of the year to stay connected to God and others in wholesome and emotionally healthy ways.

Our Heritage calendar is bursting with opportunities for us to connect to God and others:

  • Wednesday Night Fellowship & Teaching
  • Wednesday Morning & Evening Upper Room Prayer Meetings
  • Sunday School & Discipleship Classes
  • Weekly Life Groups & Bible Studies
  • Community Outreach and In-Church Ministry Opportunities
  • Writing Ministry
  • College of Prayer……..

We are humans with only so much time, energy and resources, serving a God who has unlimited time, resources and strength.  We should celebrate, participate, give, eat, drink and be merry, but also, we should remember to rest, relax, continue our spiritual disciplines, know our limits and take “One Day at A Time” (You had to know a song was coming!).

ONE DAY AT A TIME
Marijohn Wilkin and Kris Kristofferson (1974)

I'm only human, I'm just a man/woman.
Help me believe in what I could be and all that I am.
Show me the stairway, I have to climb.
Lord for my sake, teach me to take one day at a time.

One day at a time sweet Jesus, that’s all I'm asking from you.
Just give me the strength to do every day what I have to do.
Yesterday's gone sweet Jesus, and tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord help me today, show me the way
One day at a time.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. NIV     Ecclesiastes 3:1
