To Love & To Lead: Staff Discussions

Anyone who has worked in customer service has heard the phrase “Perception is Reality”.  This is something that I have used over and over in numerous situations, and not until recently did I read a devotional that challenged the validity and wisdom of these words.  The devotional is called “Through the Eyes of a Lion”.  It is a short ten day devotional and you can see it on the YouVersion Bible App.  The day two devotional is called “Hidden In Plain Sight” and starts out like this:

The human eye sees more than you realize – much more than you can actually process.  For instance, when you look up at the stars, you are technically looking at all of them; you just can’t perceive all you are seeing…Even in the daytime, the stars are right in front of you, hidden in plain sight.  The reason you can’t make out what you are seeing is because of distance and interference.  So it is spiritually.  You must not rely on the naked eye. What you think you see is not all that is there.  There are unseen things.  Spiritual things.  Eternal things.

This made me stop and think, how often do I try to interpret reality based on my perception?  Shouldn’t I, as a believer in Christ, interpret and change my perceptions based on reality?  True reality.  The reality of Jesus Christ.  In Romans 12:2 Paul says, “Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think.  This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.”  I am praying that the Holy Spirit will change my perceptions and help me to see true reality, I encourage you to join me in that prayer. Love you and love growing with you in our relationship with Jesus!
