To Love & To Lead: Staff Discussions

When the twelve spies returned from exploring the land of Canaan (Numbers Ch. 13) they brought with them the fruit of the land, and it was good.  However, the report from ten of the twelve spies concerning whether they could take possession of the land was quite different from the other two.  The Israelites believed the negative report of the ten rather than the positive of the two, and they began to complain against Moses and Aaron (Numbers Ch. 14).  How easy it was for the Israelites to believe the negative report rather than the positive one.

Today’s world is filled with negative reports, and if we choose to believe and accept them we are destined to live with anxiety, depression, fear and a number of other negative feelings that separate us from the truth of God’s love, grace and provision.

When Daniel was thrown into the Lion’s den (Daniel Ch. 6) he chose to believe that the God he served would deliver him.  He chose to believe the positive report rather than the obvious negative circumstances surrounding him.

When Paul and Silas were thrown in prison (Acts Ch. 16) they were put into the inner cell (maximum security) and their feet fastened in stocks.  Even in a dire situation Paul and Silas began to pray and sing hymns to God.  Paul and Silas could easily have given into anxiety and fear, but they chose to believe the God they served would see them through the current bad situation.  They chose the positive report.

Choose today to believe the report of the Word of God.  Choose to believe that you were created in the image of God, that you were created for good works, that you are saved, that you are healed, that you are blessed, that you have been delivered, that you are a joint heir with Jesus Christ.
